In its report on international business investments in the United States, the Organization for International Investment (OFII) finds that U.S. subsidiary companies account for 5.6 million American jobs, or 4.7 percent of private-sector employment.

U.S. subsidiary companies account for 13 percent of American manufacturing jobs. Their collective payrolls account for more than $408 billion in wages paid. These workers are typically better compensated by a third as compared to employees of homegrown U.S. companies. Average salary per worker at U.S. subsidiaries is more than $73,000.

These companies also make significant investments on their physical facilities. They spend $187.5 billion on building or expanding new plants and purchasing new equipment.
