The twenty-eighth edition of the Energy Information Administration's Annual Energy Review provides a comprehensive view of integrated energy statistics. The summary includes the country's energy production, consumption, trade, stocks, and prices across all major energy commodities from 1949 through 2009.

The report finds that in 2009, primary energy production dropped 0.6 percent from the previous year. Wind energy had the largest yearly percentage increase of all renewable resources. Primary energy consumption dropped to 95 quadrillion Btu in 2009 from the record of 102 quadrillion Btu in 2007. And carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption dropped 7 percent between 2008 and 2009 due to a decrease in coal and petroleum consumption.
