Area Development
Kestrel Aircraft Corp. will establish its manufacturing and headquarters in Superior, Wisconsin, and create up to 600 new jobs according to an announcement by Gov. Scott Walker. "This relocation will be a huge boost to the Superior-area economy," he said.

Kestrel's website states the firm makes six- and eight-person turboprop planes, and is headed by Alan Klapmeier, co-founder and former CEO of Duluth-based Cirrus Aircraft.

Wisconsin plans to create an "Enterprise Zone" in Superior and offer Kestrel $18 million in state tax credits and up to $4 million in low-cost loans. In addition, the state will work with the company to help it secure $30 million in federal tax credits.

Presently Kestrel's corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility are located in Brunswick, Maine. It also has engineering and design offices in Duluth, Minnesota.
