Area Development
Latrobe Specialty Steel Company, a manufacturer of precision-engineered specialty alloys, will invest $62 million to expand its facilities in Latrobe and Franklin, Pennsylvania. More than 100 jobs will be created as a result of the dual expansion, the majority at the manufacturing plant in Latrobe. That facility will add a 60,000-square-foot plant for the company's vacuum induction melting and vacuum arc remelting operations, which supply engineered materials for aerospace and defense systems. The company expects that facility to be operational by the end of the year. The Franklin facility for finishing operations will expand its existing building to accommodate a new bar peeler or finishing line, and should be finished before the end of September. The Pennsylvania governor's office reports that Latrobe Specialty Steel will receive approximately $1.2 million in financial incentives and training assistance.
