Area Development
Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company will invest $15 million to construct a 54,395 square foot office building on the company’s property at 6400 Brotherhood Way, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and expand its operations center, creating 102 jobs. The project will include the new building, remodeling parts of the existing building, and creating a skywalk to connect the two. The company’s new facility will include space for up to 200 additional employees plus a large training area to educate agents and staff. Brotherhood Mutual will add 102 jobs over the next four years and retain its current local staff of nearly 270 for an annual payroll of $19.3 million. The company plans to add a payroll service for churches.

“This expansion is due in part to endeavors like MinistryWorks, a new ministry payroll service the company launched in 2012.” says Mark Robison, President and CEO at Brotherhood Mutual. “Fort Wayne’s stable economic environment provides an excellent foundation to support Brotherhood Mutual’s growth. This company has its roots in this community, and as we approach our 100th anniversary, we’re looking forward to many more years of serving church customers across the country. This expansion is the next step in making that goal a reality.”

“Brotherhood Mutual has a long history of sustainability here in our community, even in tough economic times. It continues to provide job opportunities to the citizens of Fort Wayne and surrounding communities,” says Mayor Tom Henry. “It’s great to see a locally grown company like Brotherhood Mutual continue to thrive and prosper. Fort Wayne is built for success and the expansion of this accomplished company is further testimony to the strength of our City.”

As an incentive Fort Wayne City Council will consider phasing in taxes associated with the project. Brotherhood Mutual could save approximately $1.8 million on real and personal property taxes over a 10-year period. The company worked with the City of Fort Wayne, Indiana Economic Development Corporation, and WorkOne Northeast to prepare an additional incentive package of $1 million to be disbursed over a 7-year period.

“Just as it’s important to attract new business, it’s also important to make sure Indiana maintains an environment that allows existing businesses to prosper,” said Governor Mitch Daniels. “Brotherhood Mutual was founded here and we’re glad they’re continuing their commitment to northeast Indiana and trend of creating new career opportunities for Hoosiers.”
