President-elect Barack Obama has named Timothy Geithner as his nominee
for Secretary of the Treasury. At a news conference earlier today,
Obama also named Lawrence Summers as director of the National Economic
Council; Christina Romer as chair of the Council of Economic Advisors;
and Melody Barnes and Heather Higginbotham as director and deputy

Secretary of the Treasury under President Bill Clinton and chief
economist of the World Bank during the 1990s. Romer is a professor of
economics at University of California-Berkeley and formerly taught at
Princeton University. Barnes, a member of Obama's campaign advisory
team, was executive vice president of the Center for American Progress
and served as chief counsel to Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).
