Smith & Wesson is adding 225 at its corporate headquarters in Springfield, Massachusetts, and consolidate operations at its Rochester, New Hampshire, facility, the Republican reports. The company will begin hiring skilled machinists and other workers in January.

The company will bring its production of Thompson/Center Arms hunting rifles to Springfield. The headquarters facility already has about 900 employees. Smith & Wesson does not anticipate significant renovations for the additional workers.

In 2007, Smith & Wesson purchased Thompson/Center Arms, but had to lay off more than 60 workers last year due to a drop in sales.

The Springfield Mayor's Office and City Council are working on incentives towards the project.
