Over 1,000 new jobs and $1 billion in new spending could be coming to Nevada now that the Clark County Commission has approved a land deal giving the green light for a gigantic solar power operation. Plans call for ENN Mojave Energy to pay $4.5 million for 9,000 acres near Laughlin in southern Nevada.

The multi-phase project is expected to create at least 500 permanent jobs and 500 construction jobs.

ENN Mojave Energy is a subsidiary of China's ENN Group. According to the Mojave Daily News, earlier this year ENN Group's chairman told attendees of a Las Vegas energy convention that the firm will invest $10 billion in the U.S., and also indicated that nearly half those monies would be invested in Laughlin.

Under the terms of the deal, the county will sell ENN the rights to buy the land specified for the solar project. However, the land will return to the county if ENN is unable to meet specific criteria spelled out in the agreement within a set time period.
