Alltech has has announced plans to construct a 10-million gallon, self-sustaining biorefinery in Washington County, Ky. The $40 million project, which is the first of its kind to be awarded incentives under Kentucky's new Incentives for Energy Independence Act (IEIA), has the potential to create more than 90 high-paying jobs.

The company could receive up to $8 million in tax benefits under the IEIA. The new facility is part of Alltech's rural community integrated biorefinery project, the first such model in North America that integrates feed, food, and fuel production. It will allow Alltech to take fiber left from corn after producing ethanol and convert it into a usable product.
