Area Development
Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of the BlackBerry and other wireless communication devices, has chosen Irving, Texas, a Dallas-Ft. Worth suburb, as the location of its U.S. headquarters. According to local economic development officials, more than 1,000 new jobs will be created over the next several years in research and development, tech support, business operations, and administration. The company will initially occupy 100,000 square feet of existing space in a six-building, 13-acre business park. RIM officials cited the "talented work force and strong infrastructure" in Irving as key to the location decision.
