NuScale Power, an energy company, is opening its operations and engineering center in Charlotte, North Carolina. NuScale is designing and commercializing a Small Modular Reactor light water reactor nuclear power plant for applications in government and commercial sectors worldwide.

The company is currently majority owned by Fluor Corporation, one of the world’s leading companies in the engineering, fabrication, procurement and construction markets. The company’s new Charlotte office will be co-located with Fluor, initially housing 70 employees.

The new positions will include engineering, project management, licensing, sales, marketing and business development personnel who will support the commercialization of the NuScale Power ModuleTM SMR technology. NuScale Power modules each generate 45 megawatts of electric power and are installed in groups of as many as 12 to comprise a 540 megawatt power plant.

“Our new location in Charlotte will enable access to and continued recruitment of top talent in the nuclear industry,” affirmed John Hopkins, Chairman/CEO of NuScale Power. “This is a natural evolution in our objective to become the leading global supplier of small modular reactor technology, systems and services.”

”We congratulate NuScale on joining Charlotte’s nuclear energy cluster,” said Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber President/CEO. “We also applaud Fluor’s continued commitment to grow in Charlotte.”
