Alcoa Generating Corporation, the power supplier to Alcoa's smelting and fabricating operations in Newburgh, Indiana, will invest more than $600 million to upgrade its equipment and employee training program at Alcoa's 9,000-acre complex there. The company plans to hire at least 10 new employees in power plant operations, coal handling, and maintenance as part of the project. An $84,000 grant from the state will help offset the cost of the training. Alcoa has more than 4,000 employees at four Indiana locations; 500 employees have been hired at the Newburgh location since 2006.
