Byrne Dairy plans a $32 Million expansion that should create 50 new jobs at its Ultra Dairy plant in DeWitt, New York.

According to the Greater Syracuse Economic Growth Council, Byrne Dairy built its Ultra Dairy plant at 6750 West Benedict Road in DeWitt in 2003 for $13 million and expanded it in 2008. Nick Marsella, the company's senior vice president, said the company invested $68 million in the plant, which employs 130 people.

Demand for ultra-pasteurized products is growing quickly, Marsella said. To meet it, the company plans to invest $14 million in new equipment into the existing building and build an $18 million addition of up to 100,000 square feet of space.

In return, the community would benefit by the payment of $5.2 million in payments in lieu of property taxes, $17.8 million in new employee wages and benefits over 10 years, a capital investment of $30 million by the company and $401,000 in project fees to the industrial development agency, according to its application.

Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency approved sales tax and other exemptions worth more than $1 million.
