Gedore Tools opened a new U.S. distribution center in North Charleston, South Carolina yesterday, the Charleston Regional Business Journal reports. The German company has been ramping up its American operations for the past few years.

The company produces a variety of tools including pliers, torque wrenches, and a dozen kinds of hammers. It mostly serves the automotive, aviation, industrial, and renewable energy industries.

Approximately 3,000 people across the globe are employed by Gedore, but the Journal reported that the North Charleston facility has "only a handful." Still, the company's Russian facility started with a staff of five people and has since grown to 160 workers after approximately a decade. The company is seeking to continue to grow in North Charleston.

Gedore is the largest tool manufacturing conglomerate in the world and has manufacturing facilities in Germany, Austria, South Africa, and Brazil.
