Gordon Food Service, the largest family-owned and operated food service distributor in North America, will locate one of its new distribution centers in the greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, bringing 166 new jobs to the region.

Established in 1897, Gordon Food Service distributes to restaurants, healthcare and education facilities and other foodservice operators within the midwest, northeast, and southeast regions of the United States and coast-to-coast in Canada. The company also operates more than 155 Gordon Food Service Marketplace retail stores in the United States. The privately held company employs 232 throughout Pennsylvania and more than 13,000 people across the United States and Canada.

Gordon Food Service will construct a 480,000-square-foot food distribution center in Findlay Township, Allegheny County. The new facility will include dry, freezer and cooler warehouse storage as well as refrigeration and dry docks. The company will invest more than $80 million in construction, site development and new equipment and has committed to creating at least 166 new jobs within the next three years.

Thanks to Governor Corbett and the Governor’s Action Team, the new facility housed in the Greater Pittsburgh Region will be the home to one of three new distributions centers the company plans to begin building this year,” Tony Groll, president of Gordon Food Service U.S. said. “We look forward to growing our organization and taking advantage of all the great resources Pennsylvania has to offer.”

“Today’s announcement is a great example of state government working with the private sector to create new job opportunities,” Gov. Tom Corbett said. “Attracting projects like Gordon Food Service is essential to the success of our economy. This month alone we have secured projects that are expected to create 1,383 new positions and retain 1,486 jobs throughout the commonwealth. ”

The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team. The company received a funding offer from the Department of Community and Economic Development, including a $498,000 Pennsylvania First Program grant, $498,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits and $74,700 in Guaranteed Free Training which will be used for skills training for new employees.
