Amazon will open a new 600,000+ square foot fulfillment center in south Stockton, California. The company expects to create 1,000 full-time jobs.

Stockton officials said the city has worked with Amazon’s representatives to meet expedited timeline requests and as a result “a world-renown employer is coming to Stockton.

The distribution hub which will be located near the city’s airport, is seen as a major revitalization for Stockton’s south side, providing much needed jobs. Construction of the building will require continued support from the City of Stockton Community and Economic Development Departments, city officials said.

“While there is no timeline for a formal announcement from Amazon, the City of Stockton thanks Amazon for choosing to invest in our community. Five years ago, the City of Stockton gathered in the Council Chamber to announce bankruptcy. Today, with a commitment and focus on economic development, the Council can make this major announcement about job creation in our community,” officials noted at a press conference.

According to Amazon the company chose Stockton because of its dedicated workforce and the city’s support for the project. "We are thrilled to join the community and look forward to building relationship and being a good neighbor for years to come."
