VXI Global Solutions, an operator of international call centers, will invest $4 million to locate a new call center in Youngstown, Ohio. The Youngstown Vindicator reports that the company will initially hire 150 employees by October 1 and an additional 50 a month later; future plans are for up to 500 jobs at the center. VXI will retrofit 31,000 square feet of space in a downtown building that was formerly used by another call center; the company also has an option on additional space in the building for later expansion. The Vindicator report says the company chose the Youngstown site in part because the electronic infrastructure necessary for a call-center operation was already in place, and for the tax credits the state will provide to VXI, contingent on job creation.
