Custom Poultry Processing, a startup food processing company, will invest $4.9 million to locate a poultry harvesting, processing, and packaging facility in West Union, Iowa, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The company says it will create 126 new jobs when the plant is fully operational. The Courier reports that the project will involve remodeling existing buildings at a vacant appliance factory, with the renovations expected to be completed by December 1. The company plans to process more than 14 million chickens per year, targeting specialty markets such as fresh organic, halal, and antibiotic-free. The state has awarded Custom Poultry Processing an incentives package that includes a $350,000 loan and an undisclosed amount of tax credits.
