Area Development
Beyond Meat, a developer of plant-based protein products that replicate the texture and taste of meat, moved its headquarters to 111 Main Street in the historic Smoky Hollow neighborhood of El Segundo, California.

“We see this move to Smoky Hollow as an opportunity to join a community of vibrant companies that are changing the world, and to enhance the day-to-day lives of our employees by providing a creative, open space environment to collaborate,” said Beyond Meat Founder and CEO Ethan Brown. “At Beyond Meat, we try very hard to create a work environment that fosters acceptance of new ideas and teamwork internally while staying keenly in-tune with our external audiences. The new office’s location and open atmosphere supports both goals. We are confident this move to Smoky Hollow will positively impact our efforts to reduce the world’s dependency on animal protein.”

Beyond Meat’s products, such as its Chicken-Free Strips, are available in Whole Foods Markets, Sprouts Farmers Markets, national restaurant chain Tropical Smoothie and independent natural stores, among other retail and foodservice outlets.

Beyond Meat said it “joins a contingent of other dynamic start-up companies that have made Smoky Hollow their home for the past few years, attracted by other creative businesses and retro buildings of exposed brick and warehouse spaces.” The move provides Beyond Meat with an open-office layout, a new test kitchen and a family-style dining area for holding meetings and taste test events. The new minimalistic space emphasizes the company’s focus on collaboration, sustainable living and food innovation. Beyond Meat will continue to produce its products at its plant in Columbia, Missouri.

“El Segundo is a business-friendly city pleased to be the home of many of California’s most exciting start-up companies,” said Mayor Bill Fisher. “Beyond Meat has chosen the Smoky Hollow area of El Segundo because it is an epicenter in which innovation, creativity and prosperity thrive and we are pleased to have them here.”
