Albany Industries Inc. of New Albany, Mississippi, plans on investing $2.5 million to open an operation in a former manufacturing facility in Galax, Virginia. The project is expected to bring 335 jobs to a city of 7,000 citizens which Gov. Bob McDonnell said "has been hit hard by this tough economy."

"Galax is an ideal location for us to serve our Northeast markets," said Richie McLarty, president of Albany, a manufacturer of upholstered furniture. "This is a pro-business community with a workforce that's a perfect match for our needs."

Gov. McDonnell approved a $300,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund to assist Galax with the project, and the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission provided $680,000.
