Thomasville Furniture will close its factory in Appomattox, Virginia, Lynchburg's News & Advance reports. Parent company Furniture Brands International will move production to other facilities to reduce overhead costs.

Company spokesperson John Hastings said the closure will result in the lay offs of just under 200 employees. Hastings said the shuttering is "strictly an economic decision."

The factory produces ready-to-assemble furniture and furnishings for hotels. The hotel furniture manufacturing will move to North Carolina Thomasville facilities, while third-party suppliers will provide the ready-to-assemble goods.
