Citigroup announced that it will lay off 271 workers at a Tucson, Arizona call center that employs 2,300 people, the Arizona Daily Star reports. The employees are part of the company's fraud-detection and commercial credit card sectors, according to Citibank spokesperson Janis Tarter.

"Employees who are interested can consider open positions at Citi and outside of Citi," Tarter told the Daily Star. "And we're working with them to explore those options."

Citi will move the work to other locations in the United States and abroad. Customer service and collections duties for credit card and mortgage lending businesses will stay in Tucson. Citi is attempting to reduce costs and boost efficiency in its consumer banking division through the lay offs.

The Pima County One Stop employment center plans to offer assistance to laid off Citi workers.
