Two manufacturing firm’s, Merhow Industries and Blissfield Manufacturing, recently benefitted from a combined $2.6 Million in Michigan Economic Development Grants to assist with their expansion plans.

State Representative Matt Lori said Merhow Industries, a manufacturer of luxury horse trailers, plans to invest $1.1 million to relocate from Indiana to White Pigeon, Michigan.

“This is fantastic news for the residents of White Pigeon and the state as a whole,” said Lori. “Leadership in the Legislature has made it a priority to get Michigan working, and this development will help put nearly 50 people to work once the company settles in.”

As an incentive, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation approved a $200,000 performance-based grant, while the Village of White Pigeon provided the firm with a 12-year property tax abatement.

State Senator Bruce Caswell said the MEDC also provided a performance grant of $365,000 to Blissfield Manufacturing Company, which plans to invest $1.5 million to expand its factory in Blissfield, Michigan, creating 73 jobs. The Village of Blissfield is also offering a 12-year property tax abatement in support of the project.

“I congratulate Blissfield Manufacturing on its sustained growth and commend the company’s expansion of its operations. I also welcome Merhow Industries to Michigan and applaud its decision to move to Michigan,” said Caswell. “The investment made by these two companies will help not only the communities of White Pigeon and Blissfield, but will also benefit our entire region as it continues on its path to recovery.”
