Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (ISO), an independent, nonprofit provider of electricity delivery, will invest $110 million to expand and upgrade its facilities in Carmel, Indiana, according to the Indiana governor's office. The organization plans to create nearly 70 new jobs with the project; the Indianapolis Star reports that the new positions, mostly engineers and technicians, will have an average annual salary of $85,000 plus benefits. "We have experienced tremendous growth with our business since the first day of operations. It's a true testament to the drive and dedication of our sound employee base," says John R. Bear, Midwest ISO's president and CEO. "We are proud that in tough economic times, we are creating jobs, adding to Indiana's high-tech work force; and, in doing so, are recruiting the best and brightest minds from the state's colleges and universities. We are pleased with the support that we receive from Indiana and the city of Carmel as we meet and exceed our business goals." The state has offered Midwest ISO up to $1.1 million in performance-based tax incentives and up to $219,000 in training grants, contingent on job creation; the city will provide a 10-year property tax abatement for new facilities to be constructed.
