Chip maker Applied Materials is hiring 200 employers in Austin over the coming months, the Statesman reports. More than 100 of the jobs will be in manufacturing and logistics. The company expects the chip equipment industry to grow by 140 percent this year.

"This is good news," said Applied Materials spokesperson Steve Taylor. "Hiring full-time workers is a sign that we have confidence that this trend will last."

The expansion is the first time Applied Materials has hired regular full-time employees in three years.
