State Actions Bring Unionization to the Fore
State government decisions on public worker unionization have heightened the labor debate across all sectors.
What precedent do state government measures against unions, as seen in Wisconsin, set with respect to the private sector?

It’s hard to say. State actions have certainly brought the idea of unionization to the forefront in public discussion. Depending upon the polls one reads, most Americans favor collective bargaining for public employees. However, few people understand the lopsided state laws that cover state regulation of public employee collective bargaining. Since most people spend more time looking at what the next person has as compared to what they have, I think there has been a fair amount of opinion that public employee wage and benefits are completely out of line, and need to be reigned in. Those in the private sector underwent that painful process, and now they look to their public employee brothers to do the same.
