Key Performance Measures Help Save Energy, Improve Effectiveness at Ingersoll Rand Production Facility
Ingersoll Rand has identified a 10-year corporate goal of achieving a 25 percent reduction in global energy use.
Can you provide an example of an industrial facility that initiated performance measures and how much was actually saved by doing so?

Ingersoll Rand has identified a 10-year corporate goal of achieving a 25 percent reduction in global energy use. Leaders at Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, implemented a program to establish performance measures and identify energy conservation opportunities in the Tyler, Texas, production facility, which houses the Trane Residential Systems headquarters.

The upgrades link the physical environment of the production facility to the company’s business objectives. This link represents a key step in the company’s journey to creating a high-performance building at the Tyler facility. High-performance buildings take a whole-building approach to performance while creating spaces that are reliable, safe, healthy, comfortable, and efficient. They meet specific standards for energy and water consumption, system reliability and uptime, environmental compliance, occupant comfort, and other factors. All standards are set to deliver established outcomes that help building owners and occupants achieve their business mission.

Tyler site management elected to implement a simple four-step process focusing on utilities sub-metering, trending and analysis, operator behavior change, and equipment/systems efficiency. Since 2009, Tyler has saved over $2,500,000 on energy investments of $2.3 million.
