Impact of Economic Woes on Facility Plans

By Geraldine Gambale, Editor, Area Development Magazine (Oct/Nov 08)

As we go to press on this issue, it seems there’s nothing but bad economic news to report. Economists are saying the nation is either clearly in a recession or — at the very least — on the brink of one. And, they predict this recession will last longer than the previous one of 2001. This is based on a survey conducted by the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) before the $700 billion financial bailout bill was approved by Congress. More

Editor’s Note: Green=$

By Geraldine Gambale, Editor, Area Development Magazine (Aug/Sep 08)

We’ve known for some time that we — as individuals — need to reduce our carbon footprint. And, yes, we’ll get to that soon. But it’s amazing how paying $4+ for a gallon of gas has just raised our environmental consciousness. Demand for hybrid vehicles has surged and no one wants to buy that SUV that you swore you really needed just a few years ago. More

By Geraldine Gambale, Editor, Area Development Magazine (Jun/Jul 08)

What’s All the Noise?

By Geraldine Gambale, Editor, Area Development Magazine (Dec/Jan 08)

Usually, at year’s end, all of the economic pundits give their predictions as to what lies ahead for businesses in the coming year. This year, however, these predictions are creating a clattering akin to that made on the lawn by Santa’s reindeer on the night before Christmas! More

Economic Brinkmanship

By Geraldine Gambale, Editor, Area Development Magazine (Nov 07)

You need to be an economic wizard to figure out where the U.S. economy is heading. How can some economists argue that the nation is on the brink of a recession when, according to the Commerce Department, the U.S. GDP grew nearly 4 percent in the third quarter — the strongest gain since the first quarter of 2006? More
