Unique Granite and Marble Inc Expands Operations Center in Owensboro, Kentucky
01/22/2013
With 28 current employees, Unique Granite and Marble has grown into the Owensboro area’s largest fabricator of custom stone countertops. With the expansion, the company plans to establish a new division to produce countertops for large commercial and multi-family units throughout a six-state region.
“We look forward to the opportunities presented to us with the support of the people at the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation,” said Unique Granite and Marble CEO Rick Thomas. “These incentives will be used to bring jobs back to Owensboro. This community has given so much to us; we are very excited for the opportunity to give back.”
“Unique Granite and Marble is a true small business success story, with an owner who saw a need in his community, began filling that need and is now looking to expand the company’s footprint,” said Gov. Steve Beshear. “We’re excited to see these 25 new jobs and a $400,000 investment in the Commonwealth.”
As an incentive to encourage the investment and job growth in Owensboro, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $250,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
“Unique Granite and Marble is a great example of the quality businesses that we have in Owensboro and Daviess County,” said Nick Brake, president of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation. “We thank Rick and his team for choosing to grow here, and we deeply appreciate their commitment to increasing the economy in our region.”
