Manufacturer of Mining Equipment to Create Up to 70 Jobs in South Dakota

01/05/2012
Masaba Mining Equipment has announced plans to build a 50,000-sq.-ft. addition to its Vermillion, South Dakota, facility. The expansion project is expected to create up to 70 jobs over the next three years.

Mesaba is a manufacturer of bulk-handling equipment for the mining industry, and exports to Central and South America, Africa and Australia.

President Jerad Higman said the new addition will increase the overall efficiency of the firm's manufacturing process. "We were turning orders away because we could not keep up with the demand," he explained. "The new painting facility will allow us to eliminate a bottleneck in our process flow and produce more equipment, faster."

This project marks the third expansion at the firm's SD facility in five years. "Three expansions in five years is an impressive track record," noted Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
