Allergan to Create 200 Jobs at Its Westport, Ireland, Facility

Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland has announced it will invest $350 million (€275m) to expand its Mayo County plant in Westport, Ireland. The project is expected to will create 200 jobs (plus 250 construction job) over the next four years. Allergan bought the technology park next to the plant to allow for the expansion.

The Westport site is an important strategic operation as it contributes over half of the firm's global revenues due the range of products manufactured there.

Specifically, company officials said this new investment will enable Allergan to expand its manufacturing capacity for Botox, as well as develop a manufacturing base for the next generation of biologic products currently in Allergan's pipeline.

Based in Irvine, California, Allergan is a multi-specialty health care company with 10,000 employees and a presence in over 100 countries. Its portfolio includes pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices and over-the-counter consumer products. Subsidiary Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland is based in Westport, Ireland. Its 500,000-sq.-ft. facility includes manufacturing operations and state-of-the-art labs situated on a 30-acre campus.
