Physicians Choice Laboratory Services Invests in $24.1 Million In New Rock Hill, South Carolina campus

Area Development Online News Desk (10/25/2012)
Physicians Choice Laboratory Services, a provider of testing services to clinicians, will invest $24.1 million to relocate to a new campus in Rock Hill, South Carolina, with plans to create 364 jobs during the next five years.

South Carolina Department of Commerce said it expects 200 new jobs will be created and 150 employees relocated from Charlotte, North Carolina. Its 100,000 square foot facility in York County, South Carolina, will allow the firm to consolidate all its operations in one location. The new facility, located at Riverwalk Business Park, is expected to open in July 2013.

"We are excited to move forward with our plans to locate operations in York County," said Joe Wiegel, president of operations for Physicians Choice Laboratory Services. "Our company is seeing increasing demand for our services, so this expansion will allow us to better serve our customers. South Carolina offers us an excellent business environment and a skilled workforce. We appreciate the support we've received from state and local officials."

"Today's announcement by Physicians Choice Laboratory Services is another big win for South Carolina. We celebrate the company's decision to put roots down in the Palmetto State, investing $24.1 million and creating 364 well-paying jobs in York County. We work with companies like Physicians Choice Laboratory Services every day to show them that South Carolina is the right place to do business," said Gov. Nikki Haley.

As an incentive South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits, which will become available when hiring targets are met. In addition the firm received a payment in lieu of taxes, which will reduce the company's property taxes over the next two decades.

"We are building on our reputation in the life sciences club, and the announcement by Physicians Choice Laboratory Services is an important part of that. By offering companies the right business climate and workforce talent, we can continue to attract job-creating investments like this one to South Carolina," said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.

Physicians Choice will assist with infrastructure and road improvements at Riverwalk Business Park, and receive tax credits for taking over the former Celanese Corporation textile mill plant.

"The City of Rock Hill is very excited to welcome PCLS to Rock Hill and to Riverwalk Business Park," said Rock Hill Mayor Doug Echols. "The project is the first industrial client for Riverwalk and will bring much needed jobs and investment in our community."
