Detroit Thermal Systems Plans Manufacturing Facility In Romulus, Michigan

Area Development Online News Desk (10/31/2012)
Detroit Thermal Systems, a firm that develops and manufactures high quality climate control systems and components, plans to lease a 365,000 square foot production plant in Romulus, Michigan, to serve as its primary manufacturing facility, pending approval of state and local incentives.

The firm said it will lease the building at 6505 Cogswell Street in Romulus to house its recent acquisition of the Automotive Components Holdings climate control systems business. While the cost of its investment was not disclosed, the company said it will make the necessary improvements to revitalize the site and refurbish assembly systems to support production of world class heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for automakers, employing a workforce of about 500 employees by the end of 2014.

"Our investment in readying this site with the installation of advanced equipment and employee training, demonstrates our commitment to rebuilding a vibrant manufacturing base in the Detroit area," said Kurt Hall, chief operating officer of Detroit Thermal Systems. "Once our investments are complete, this facility and our talented workforce will create the benchmark for efficient and high-quality manufacturing of climate control systems."

The DTS facility will be vertically integrated with in-house capability for manufacturing of components and assembly of complete HVAC modules. Included in the equipment line-up will be 30 precision injection molding presses to manufacture plastic components. The new plant will have the capacity to produce more than two million HVAC systems annually, the firm said. The plant will also be eco-friendly, with initiatives to minimize the use of energy and water, and to maximize the recycling of materials.
