Kentucky Provides the Right Ingredients for Food Manufacturer’s Expansion

11/29/2007
Flowers Foods, Inc., a leading producer and marketer of packaged bakery foods, will invest $52 million to build a new facility in Bardstown, Kentucky. Flowers Foods produces the brands Nature's Own, Cobblestone Mill, Sunbeam, and Blue Bird, among others. According to company officials, the plans include a 200,000-square-foot bakery that will produce fresh breads and buns for markets in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana. Flowers Foods plans to create approximately 100 new jobs on the first production line, which should be operational in the fall of 2008, with a second production line and as many as 45 additional jobs to be added later. The Kentucky governor's office states that the average salary for the new positions should be slightly under $40,000 per year, and that more than $2 million in tax and other financial incentives have been offered to Flowers Foods.
