Auto Supply Distributor Expanding Operations in Indiana
Area Development Online News Desk (11/03/2009)
Kem Krest, a distribution and supply management company serving the automotive and transportation industries, will invest $3.3 million to expand its operations in Elkhart, Indiana, according to the Indiana governor's office. The company, which will create 50 new jobs with the expansion, plans to move its headquarters to an existing 150,000-square-foot facility in Elkhart. "We began an extensive process of fine-tuning our business model, recruiting great people, and developing a sustainable infrastructure several years ago, which has now put us in a great position in our industry," says Amish Shah, Kem Krest's president. "We found Elkhart's strong work force and low cost of doing business to be the main drivers to our decision, but in the back of our mind, we knew leaving Elkhart would not be good for Elkhart, where my business partner and I were born." The state has offered Kem Krest up to $140,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $50,000 in training grants, contingent on job creation; the city has preliminarily approved additional property tax phase-in. The company plans to move and begin hiring over the next 12 months.
