Verizon Wireless Investing $40 Million for South Carolina Facility Relocation
Area Development Online News Desk (12/10/2009)
Verizon Wireless will invest $40 million to relocate an existing customer service facility in South Carolina to a new location nearby, according to South Carolina commerce officials. The Verizon Wireless Columbia Call Center will move to a to-be-constructed, state-of-the-art building in Elgin, near Columbia; the new center is expected to be fully operational in the fourth quarter of 2010. "While our location will be changing, our focus will be the same, which is to provide a great customer experience in every interaction," says Sharon Maestas, director of customer service for the Columbia Call Center. No new permanent jobs are expected with the relocation, but the upgrades will allow the company to retain its current 1,500-member work force and should create approximately 100 temporary construction jobs.
