Kellogg Investing $40M in Michigan

12/14/2007
Kellogg Company will expand its W.K. Kellogg Institute for Food and Nutrition Research (WKKI) in Battle Creek, Michigan, with a $40 million investment. According to a company statement, the 157,000-square-foot pilot plant and office space addition will expand the company's existing global center for research and development, which opened in 1997. "In 2006, 17 percent of net sales, or almost $1.9 billion were delivered through innovations launched in the last three years," says David Mackay, Kellogg's president and CEO. "The expansion of the WKKI facility ensures we can continue to drive strong innovation." State and local incentives being provided to Kellogg include designating the facility as an Agricultural Processing Renaissance Zone (APRZ) for 10 years. The APRZ offers tax exemptions for agricultural processors within the state. Construction is planned to begin in the second quarter of 2008, with completion in the third quarter of 2009.
