Schott Solar Expanding PV Production in New Mexico
Area Development Online News Desk (12/17/2009)
Schott Solar Inc., a division of Schott North America, will expand production of its photovoltaic (PV) module production line at its facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The company says in a statement that it has hired 60 new employees to facilitate the expanded production, which adds two new shifts and creates a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week capacity at the plant; the production work force there is now 160 employees. "Creating jobs in today's economic environment is a tremendous achievement for any company," says Gerald Fine, Schott Solar's president and CEO. "To be able to almost double our PV work force in such a short time is a testament to the hard work and dedication to the people who have been with us from the start. They put in the work that allows us to grow." The Albuquerque plant began production nine months ago. Schott North America is a U.S. subsidiary of Schott AG, a Germany-based manufacturer of specialty glass products and components.
