Macy's Locates Online Fulfillment Center, 1,200 Jobs Near Martinsburg, West Virginia

12/21/2010
National retailer Macy's has selected a site near Martinsburg, West Virginia, for a new online fulfillment center. The 1.3 million-square-foot facility, which will open in 2012, will house 1,200 full- and part-time employees year-round, and add 700 temporary seasonal workers during the holiday shopping season.

"The new Martinsburg fulfillment center will represent a significant expansion of our online capacity, and will be used in particular to prepare and ship orders to macys.com customers in Northeast and Middle Atlantic states. This center will include the very latest material handling equipment and warehouse management systems so we can fill orders quickly and efficiently," said Terry J. Lundgren, chairman, president, and CEO of Macy's, Inc.

Incentives and the site's location along the I-81 corridor approximately 80 miles northwest of Washington, D. C. attracted Macy's to Martinsburg. The company will also invest in website upgrades, systems infrastructure, and customer service.
