Amazon.com Could Create 1,000 Jobs in Columbia, South Carolina, Area

12/07/2010
South Carolina's Lexington County Council is expected to vote on an incentives package tonight that could bring Amazon.com to the Columbia region, local television station WSPA reports. The 1 million-square-foot distribution center in question could create approximately 1,000 jobs.

Governor Mark Sanford would not confirm a potential Amazon investment in the state.

Columbia is located at a strategic transportation hub. The potential Amazon site is off of Interstate 77, near I-26 and I-20. It is also near air transport via the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, which has a UPS hub across the street.
