Tindall Corporation, a manufacturer of concrete-base systems for wind turbines, will invest $66 million to build a new manufacturing facility in Newton, Kansas, according to the Newton Kansan. The South-Carolina headquartered company plans to create 200 new jobs during its first year of operations, with potential for up to 400 jobs by the end of the third year. Tindall plans to build a plant of up to 200,000 square feet on 144 acres at the Kansas Logistics Park; Tindall is the park's first tenant. The company will manufacture a new type of concrete-and-steel base for wind turbine towers that allows for increased height and more efficient electricity generation. "This has been a fun project for us," says Bill Lowndes, Tindall's CEO, quoted in the Kansan. "After a hard look and examination of the people and places where this could go, it looks like Newton was the clear winner. You have a very favorable railroad situation. Direct access to both main lines. This is a great location with great people and we were very welcome here." He says construction should begin sometime in early 2011. The Kansan reports that the company is negotiating with state and local officials regarding financial incentives.
