Southern Current Plans Solar Energy Project In Orangeburg, South Carolina
03/08/2017
Headquartered in Charleston, Southern Current strives to make solar power economically attractive to utilities and consumers. Focused on residential, commercial and utility-scale solar energy projects, Southern Current is working with regulators, landowners, utilities and business development groups throughout the United States to build more than one gigawatt of new solar projects by the end of 2017.
This Orangeburg County project will be an eight-megawatt (MW) direct current facility and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2017.
“It’s very exciting to be part of projects like these that are helping to reshape South Carolina’s energy future. This would not be possible without the support of the local community and all of our development partners,” said Southern Current Founder & Chief Development Officer Paul Fleury.
“South Carolina has proven to be a place where companies in any industry can succeed, and that shows when a company like Southern Current decides to invest here. We’re excited for what the future will bring, not only for Southern Current, but for the entire solar industry in our state,” Governor Henry McMaster said.
“As Orangeburg County continues to build and grow, solar projects will be an even more important part of our efforts to provide affordable, sustainable energy for our residents. We are excited to have Southern Current come to Orangeburg County. The nation and the world now have their eyes on Orangeburg County and want to be part of our future, ” Orangeburg County Development Chairman Ken Middleton said.
