Chrysler Invests $43M to Expand Kokomo, Indiana Facility

05/12/2010
Chrysler announced that it will rehire 379 laid-off employees and hire 20 new supervisors at its factory in Kokomo, Indiana. The company plans to invest $43 million in equipment to grow the facility, which will manufacture car transmissions.

The plant will produce components and transmissions for four-cylinder engines in Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep small- to mid-sized vehicles. Kokomo is supporting the project with a tax abatement grant.

Since 2007, Chrysler has invested $1 billion in new powertrains. Those funds include $179 million at the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance facility in Dundee, Michigan, and $730 million at a Trenton, Michigan facility that produces new six-cylinder engines.
