Japan-Based Chiyoda USA Corporation Plans Expansion Of Greencastle, Indiana, Manufacturing Center
06/15/2015
The company produces a variety of automotive parts, including air conditioning ducts, gusset covers, roof rail covers, rear spoilers and fender molding, trunks and trunk covers, hood grills, side protectors, bumper covers, harnesses and camera covers.
Chiyoda USA will construct and equip a new 90,000-square-foot facility at its existing Unites States headquarters in Greencastle. The building, which will house a new paint line, will be adjacent to the company’s current building at 2200 State Road 240 E. The investment will also be used to purchase additional equipment at the company’s current facility to increase manufacturing capacity for one of its primary customers, Subaru of Indiana Automotive.
Established in May 2005, the company’s Greencastle location currently employs 133 full-time Indiana residents as well as more than 100 temporary associates. Chiyoda USA, which is one of Putnam County’s largest employers, started construction this month and expects to begin hiring for production through supervisor positions within the next six months.
“Almost ten years has passed since Chiyoda came to Greencastle,” said Michihiro Oe, CEO of Chiyoda USA. “We are excited to be expanding with the additional building and jobs. With the support of our employees, our community, our customers strong sales, and God’s shadow has brought us this far. The completion of our new building is schedule for March 2016. We are very glad to be able to give back to our community by providing these jobs.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Chiyoda USA Corporation up to $1,225,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Greencastle will consider additional incentives at the request of the Greencastle/Putnam County Development Center Inc.
“Indiana continues to attract private sector manufacturing jobs because companies like Chiyoda USA recognize the strengths of the Hoosier State,” said Governor Mike Pence. “Our low taxes and a balanced budget ensure financial predictability, while a robust workforce and superior statewide vocational training assure businesses that skilled Hoosiers are ready to fill jobs and contribute to their success.”
