JBE Inc. To Expand Into Berkeley County, South Carolina

06/24/2014
JBE, Inc., a supplier to the automotive, aerospace, and industrial electrical industries, will expand its production center into the Berkeley County city of Hanahan, South Carolina. The firm’s investment is expected to create approximately 20 new jobs in the region.

Established in 1982 as a family-owned business in Hartsville, South Carolina, JBE, Inc. currently has 55 employees and is among only a handful of minority-owned companies on the East Coast to hold a Foreign Trade Zone designation. The company serves a variety of industry leaders in a sub-assembly and manufacturing capacity, including: Boeing, Cummins, Otis Elevator, Honda, Sonoco, Hengst and ABB. As part of this expansion, the company plans to grow its aerospace work and better serve all of its customers through proximate access to the Port of Charleston, the South Carolina Department of Commerce said.

"Our first thank you, in helping JBE, Inc. grow and succeed over the years, goes to the people that we have here and the way that we feel about them being a part of our family. Without them, these last 30 years would not have been possible. We would also like to give a special thanks to CRDA, South Carolina Department of Commerce, Berkeley County and the city of Hanahan,” Jerry Ellison, President/CEO of JBE Inc.

"JBE was born right here in South Carolina and they continue to find success and create jobs serving key industries in our state. They are a great example of true South Carolina entrepreneurial spirit and a valued part of our local communities, “ Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said.

"JBE, Inc. is a wonderful asset and we're proud to welcome them to the region. As a supplier for Boeing and Cummins, JBE supports two vital industry sectors - aerospace and automotive - that are instrumental in growing our region's economic prosperity.” Charleston Regional Development Alliance Board Chairman Bob Whitten added.
