Boat Manufacturer Adding 250 Jobs in North Carolina

07/22/2008
Fountain Powerboats, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance motorboats, will expands its facilities in Washington, North Carolina, to accommodate a new product line. The $12 million project will create more than 250 jobs over the next five years, with an average annual salary of $38,500 plus benefits. The new product line, Baja, was recently purchased from another boat manufacturer. "Relocating a major production process from one state to another is a very expensive proposition," says Reggie Fountain, the company's founder and CEO. "North Carolina's JDIG played strongly in our decision to relocate Baja boats to our existing North Carolina factory." The JDIG - or Job Development Investment Grant - is part of a state incentive package of at least $2.5 million, contingent on job creation and retention for 11 years.
