Joint Venture to Manufacture Energy-Efficient Lighting Products in Tennessee

07/23/2009
Davis Groupe, Aladdin Mantle Lamp Company, and NCS Power Inc. will team up to manufacture energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) lighting products in several mid-Tennessee locations. The Tennessean reports that between 100 and 200 new jobs are expected, with about half the positions based in Davis Groupe's facility in Murfreesboro. Davis Groupe has supplied products to automotive manufacturers; Aladdin, based in Clarksville, Tennessee, has received research and funding support from Washington-headquartered NCS Power to develop the LED lighting product. "If we do the proper job of continuing to develop and manufacture it, this could be a significant industry in the state," says Jimmy Davis, owner of Davis Groupe. He tells the Tennessean that his company had to lay off all but seven of its 55 employees due to the auto industry difficulties, but that he now plans to rehire those who were let go and bring on additional workers. "Tennessee is the perfect place to be the lighting capital of the world," he says. "We have machine companies. We have fabrication companies, engineering support, land, and logistics. We have everything we need." The Nashville Business Journal reports that the companies plan to use facilities in Murfreesboro, La Vergne, Lewisburg, Goodlettsville, and Tulahoma, Tennessee, to manufacture the new products.
