07/24/2012
The center will support Macy's and Bloomingdale's growing online sales, preparing and shipping orders primarily to customers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. According to the firm, it chose Martinsburg because of its promixity to the Interstate 81 corridor which stretches throughout the eastern US.
"It's terrific to see Macy's new distribution and fulfillment center officially opening its doors. The center will provide hundreds of good-paying jobs for West Virginians in the Eastern Panhandle." Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said. "Macy's $150 million dollar investment speaks volumes to the positive business climate we've created in our state. That outstanding business environment and our world-class workforce are drawing attention from major companies around the world." According to public records, the retailer will receive a package of incentives which includes tax abatements, assistance with site preparation and job training grants.
"This is a great day for the Eastern Panhandle, all of West Virginia, and for Macy's," Sen. Joe Manchin said. "Macy's has discovered what we have all always known, West Virginia is a great place to do business. The thousands of jobs this distribution and fulfillment center will create will make a tremendous impact in our region, and we could not be more excited."
"We know why Macy's chose West Virginia for this incredible facility. It's because West Virginians are dedicated and hard-working," Sen. Jay Rockefeller said. "This is a tremendous investment in the future of the state and the workers here are embracing this exciting opportunity. I am excited to welcome Macy's new fulfillment center to Martinsburg. I know this is the start of a great partnership in the Eastern Panhandle."
"We at Macy's thank state and local officials in West Virginia, led by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, for their support and assistance to bring this facility to reality," Peter Longo, president of Macy's Logistics and Operations. "Macy's is investing more than $150 million in building this world-class fulfillment center. We look forward to being an active member of the community in Martinsburg and Berkeley County, as we are across the country in places where we operate."
