Jubilant Cadista Pharmaceuticals Breaks Ground On Salisbury, Maryland, Expansion Project

Area Development Online News Desk (07/24/2013)
Jubilant Cadista Pharmaceuticals, a generic prescription pharmaceuticals company, started construction on an expansion of its U.S. headquarters in Salisbury, Maryland. The expansion, which will be completed in fourth quarter of 2014, will double the company’s facility and include additional space for production, packing, warehouse and distribution, enabling it to double the number of products it produces.

In addition the company, part of India-based parent Jubilant Life Sciences, grew its employment base from 30 in 2005 to 300 this year, with plans to add as many as 200 employees over the next five years. Cadista Holdings Inc., along with its fully owned subsidiary Jubilant Cadista Pharmaceuticals, develops, manufactures, sells and distributes prescription generic pharmaceutical products in the United States. The company specializes in the formulation of generic prescription medications in both tablets and capsules.

“When our parent company, Jubilant Life Sciences Limited, acquired a majority stake in this company eight years ago, there were about 30 people working here,” said Scott Delaney, CEO of Jubilant Cadista. “Today, nearly 300 employees help to produce 14 product families at this facility. The site expansion will allow us to grow and accommodate our plans of doubling the number of products over the next two years. During the next several years, the addition of these and possibly more products currently in the pipeline will open opportunities for the addition of up to 200 or more jobs. This kind of rapid growth could not, and cannot, happen without tremendous support from our parent company and the encouragement of the city of Salisbury, Wicomico County and the State of Maryland.”

“It is a testament to our outstanding workforce and supportive climate for life sciences companies that a world-class company like Cadista Pharmaceuticals has chosen to expand and add jobs on our Eastern Shore,” said Gov. Martin O’Malley. “Our trade mission to India – the first by a sitting Maryland Governor – was a tremendous success. We brought home more than $60 million in business deals for Maryland companies and we are continuing to see companies, like Cadista, invest in Maryland.”

“Cadista has put Salisbury on the map at an international level. A big thank you to the Bhartia family, Governor Martin O’Malley, DBED, and the men and women who work in the local facility,” said Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr. “As Salisbury, and Maryland continue to lead the charge for economic recovery and job creation, we know that making business viable for companies like Cadista is the cornerstone of success. These jobs and the ones that follow are important in the growth of Salisbury’s economic base.”
