Prysmian Group North America Expands Abbeville, South Carolina, Manufacturing Plant

07/05/2016
Prysmian Group North America, a worldwide leader in the production of electrical cables, will invest $1.9 million to expand its existing operations at 569 S.C. Highway 28 Bypass in Abbeville, South Carolina.

According to the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Prysmian Group North America, a manufacturer of low, medium and high voltage electrical cables, is upgrading the equipment at its Abbeville County plant to meet increased customer demand.

“The Abbeville plant is the cornerstone of the operations of Prysmian North America, and we are blessed to have sustained business from longtime customers combined with some new relationships. We have organically grown to meet demand and to ensure our plant is operating efficiently, and I’m grateful to our Abbeville employees for their role in our success,” said Abbeville Plant Director of Operations Cecil Talley.

Opened in 1964, the company’s Abbeville facility, which is located on S.C. Highway 28, is one of 10 North American locations for the international manufacturer and is home to the only vertical continuous vulcanization line in North America. Over the last six years, Prysmian Group has invested approximately $20 million in improvements and expansions at the facility.

“We are proud to announce another expansion with our friends at Prysmian Group in South Carolina. They have called Abbeville home for over 50 years and this $1.9 million investment and creation of new jobs is another commitment to their partnership with our state,” Governor Nikki Haley said.

“Without a doubt, the success of Prysmian Group is another perfect example of the pro-business climate we’ve worked hard to foster in South Carolina. We’re thrilled to have such a dynamic company continue to call Abbeville County home, said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
